I love our community and I’m passionate about serving it. My job is not just to represent the Rockhampton Electorate in parliament – it’s to work with our community to get the best outcomes for our schools, our small businesses, local groups and families. Everyday, my focus is on working towards a better future for everyone in our community.
Meet Barry
Hi, I’m Barry O’Rourke.
As many of you know, I’m a passionate Central Queenslander and I’m convinced we live in the best place in the world.
Our lifestyle in Rocky and Gracemere and we’re fortunate to have great schools, great community organisations, a thriving local small business community and some great beaches just down the road. As a major hub for the mining and agricultural industries (we are the Beef Capital after all) and, increasingly, a powerhouse in renewable energy production, we are well positioned for the future.

I’m focused on making sure we’re delivering the infrastructure we need to reach out future potential, along with the services and support our community needs to continue to thrive.
At present, the Queensland government is helping to deliver more than $3b in local infrastructure projects, including the Rocky Ring Road, Rookwood Weir, the Browne Park upgrade, as well as numerous local school and road upgrades.
We’ve also made TAFE fee for courses linked to local skills shortages, to make sure Central Queenslanders can fill the jobs available in our region and employers can find the staff they need in our community.
There’s still lots to be done, and I’m focused on delivering a better future for our community.
